Summertime, and the livin’ is easy hot! It’s getting to the point that you can’t stay outdoors as long as you’d like to, you feel like you’re going to melt… but it doesn’t have to be that way. Sure you could drop an ice cube down your kid’s shorts, but there are better ways of keeping your family cool and comfortable as the sun wanders its western path. How Cooling Keeps Your Patio Welcoming
No matter what version of patio cooling you select, they all have one important function – to lower the temperature of the air around your family’s skin. It all comes down to what method of evaporation would be best for you. You see, when we humans sweat it’s your body’s way of cooling down – but not just by putting moisture on your skin. You cool down because that moisture evaporates, and during the process of turning water from a liquid to a gaseous state it cools the air. That’s why you feel better when you step under a ceiling fan (the liquid on your skin is evaporating quicker) or feel the glorious mist floating in off a nearby waterfall.
But there are so many ways you can help the evaporation process… what to do, what to do.
Choosing Which Patio Cooling is Right for You
One of the classic ways we’ve cooled off is by use of a fan. In the patio world, that would mean an outdoor ceiling fan. Outdoor ceiling fans push air along little bodies (or, in my case, way too big bodies) and in doing so, it speeds the evaporative process. Outdoor ceiling fans do such a good job that on an 80° day running the ceiling fan will make it feel like 76°. We love that there are so many styles available (check out the tropical outdoor ceiling fans or our nautical outdoor ceiling fans) that there’s sure to be one that will fit your home perfectly.
One of the best methods of cooling a larger area is by using a patio mister. Misters do exactly what it sounds like they do – they create small water droplets that, when they touch your skin, will evaporate causing that cooling effect we all love. Higher pressure misters create smaller water droplets, which will cool you faster and longer. We’ve got a great selection of freestanding misters you can put just about anywhere, and wall mounted misters for those dedicated outdoor play areas that need a little extra help.
Finally, we come to the Swamp Thing. Clinically known as evaporative coolers in the south they’ve long been known as “Swamp Coolers.” These are a really neat solution to your outdoor cooling needs – They use the principle of evaporating water cooling the air around it and turn it up to eleven. Dry air is blown through a thick moistened pad, evaporating the water quickly and causing the temperature of the air around it to drop as much as 20 degrees (and the fan pushes that air out toward your little ones romping in the green grass). Pretty neat, and very economical (they use about a tenth of the electricity of an air conditioner).
